What is the difference between 8mm, 10mm and 12mm laminate flooring?

The main difference between 8mm, 10mm and 12mm laminate flooring is the thickness of the board. Thicker laminate can feel more solid underfoot and may help create a more premium finish, especially in busy areas of the home.

12mm laminate flooring can feel more solid underfoot than thinner laminate and may help create a more premium finish. It is a popular choice for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and open-plan spaces where you want a sturdier feel.

8mm laminate flooring can be a practical and affordable option for bedrooms and lighter-use rooms. 10mm laminate flooring is a good middle choice for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and family spaces. 12mm laminate flooring is often chosen for busier homes, hallways and open-plan areas where customers want a sturdier, more substantial feel.

Thickness is important, but it is not the only thing to look at. The AC rating, wear layer, underlay, fitting method and subfloor preparation also affect how well laminate flooring performs.
